"So, you're a philosopher?
Yes, I think very deeply... (repeat and scratch)"
Excerpt from "My Philosophy", Boogie Down Productions, Jive/RCA 1988
For "My Philosophy" David Blandy is bringing together a selection of
his works from the past 8 years which explore the possiblility of
finding ways to live your life in popular culture. Where do you find
ideas to believe in if organised religion and philosophy seem
irrelevent, if popular culture is the only authorititive voice you
have access to? And with the commodity-centred nature of popular
culture, can an individual's relationship with it ever be
straightforward?
Blandy seeks answers to life's questions from Ben E. King, Bruce Lee,
KRS-One and David Carradine. The program will include "Samurai
Story" (2008), in which Blandy tries to live by the code of the
Samurai (as outlined in the Hagakure) in a Japanese garden in
Cheshire, which features a soundtrack specifically written for it by
English Dub legend Manasseh.

Artprojx Matinees are programmed and presented by David Gryn | Artprojx.
